"The Falling"

I am writing this new song
For the towers that are gone

It isn't that I loved them so,
Just can't believe they had to go

Every time I look in the air
I half expect them standing there

Flew our planes fast and steady
With their box cutters at the ready

All those years of planning, training
Left blood and ashes pouring, raining

Why couldn't they just let it be
Instead bringing us to our knees

Our mayor Rudy did us proud
You ask me he did it much too loud

Flags flying from every car
Makes me want to run very far

New Yorkers' pulled together
But that changes with the weather

Smallpox, anthrax, dirty bombs
Turned us into worried moms

Never quite felt so on edge
Like I'm standing on a ledge

Taking off my belt and shoes
Makes me sing the airport blues

US traitor John Walker Lindh
What a lousy way to sin

If he was my only son
I'd be reaching for his gun

Springsteen pines for what was lost
I find him smarmy though he's the boss

When our thoughts on this abate
These words will be so out of date
