3 Minute Wonder: Compressed Lives

You are invited to a PREVIEW SCREENING
on Thursday 1 September 6-8pm

Kenny Schachter Rove are pleased to announce a special preview screening of conceptual
artist and filmmaker Maria Marshall’s new short entitled 4500: I Am President of my Dreams
- one of three that have been commissioned for broadcast in the forthcoming 3 Minute Wonder
strand on Channel 4.

For the series, Maria has collaborated with family members to make three personal films, from
the perspective of her son, her grandmother and herself.  Each film compresses a days activities
and a lifetimes' experience into 4500 frames, 3 minutes - with the other parts of the series entitled
4500: Some Children Wear No Shoes and 4500: You Are Too Young to Understand.

4500: I Am President of my Dreams is shot on super 16mm film and shows Grandma Madeleine,
born in Bagdad and shipped to Bombay to marry at 16, as she recalls her life. By deconstructing
the conventional sound of the film, through re-winding, placing sections out of synch, and stretches
of silence, Marshall suggests an emotional, colourful journey through Grandma Madeleine's life.

An installation Artist, specialising in video, Maria has exhibited in Museums such as the Whitney
New York, Pompidou Paris and the South London Gallery.

This is a one night only presentation at Kenny Schachter ROVE
